AOC Enters The VR Realm With Its Own Headset
September 15, 2016

Leading display manufacturer AOC is joining the VR fray with its own headset. Simply called the AOC VR Headset, the company debuted its latest device at the Gamescom expo in Cologne. The headset will be run on the Open Source Virtual Reality (OSVR) platform, and will be compatible with all SteamVR titles.

AOC VR is similar in design to the Oculus Rift, with two OLED screens sporting a 1080x1200 resolution each, and a 90Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the headset will feature retractable headphones.

"We at AOC have always been at the forefront of developments in the display sector, be they desk- or head-mounted," said AOC marketing director Stefan Sommer.

"I am sure that our new VR headset is only the beginning of a fascinating development and that AOC customers can look forward to even more exciting products in the not too distant future.”

Release is expected in late 2016; however, a release to Australia and New Zealand is yet to be confirmed. Similarly, pricing is yet to be confirmed, however UK sites are indicating a cost of around £275 – around half the price of the Oculus Rift.
